Management of Autism Spectrum Disorder Through Ayurveda Intervention: a Case Report

Abstract
An autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that manifests as communication, social, and behavioural problems. In Ayurveda, unmad can be correlated with ASD. Unmad is caused by imbalances in Vata dosha and disruptions in Manovaha srotas. The 5-year-old boy in this case study has been diagnosed with ASD. He displays signs like delayed language development, hand flapping, echolalia, and poor eye contact. Jatamansi Churna, Kalyanaka Ghrita, Sarvanga Abhyanga, Pratimarsha Nasya, Matra Basti, and herbomineral formulations (Swarna Bhasma) were among the Ayurvedic treatments used in an integrative treatment strategy. Behavioural therapy was also used for six months. After the intervention, the patient's ISAA score increased from 97 to 79, and there were also noticeable improvements in speech, attention span, and social interaction. According to this case, behavioural therapy combined with particular Ayurvedic treatment may provide a safe, supportive, and holistic approach to managing ASD over the long term.
